The fireflies are back tonight, right on time, ushering in this week’s summer solstice. They make their presence known in the gloaming, bursts of bright fluorescent yellow, refulgent in the engulfing blackness. They never seem to stay lit long enough for me. Appearing in a flash and then just as quickly lost in the night. It’s no surprise these magical qualities are designed for mating. Aren’t we all drawn to those who shine?
